Motorcycle News - Renderings of Nicky Hayden Tribute Bikes on Display at 2018 AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days
Nicky Hayden, one of the greatest American motorcycle racers of all time, passed away last year, and two bikes will be customized in his honor. Ride in paradise, Kentucky Kid.
LEXINGTON, Ohio -- Two bikes that will be customized as a tribute to AMA road racer and flat track racer Nicky Hayden are on display throughout the weekend in the Analog Cycles tent at AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days, featuring Royal Enfield.
Hayden passed away on May 22, 2017, as a result of injuries sustained when he was hit by a car while training on his road bicycle in Italy.
The bikes are the latest way the AMA has honored Hayden’s career. In June 2017, the AMA Board of Directors renamed the AMA Horizon Award, presented to standout amateur racers who are going pro, in Nicky Hayden’s memory. Hayden received the inaugural AMA Horizon Award in 1997 as a result of his stellar amateur flat-track career.
American Honda donated the two motorcycles, a 2018 Honda CBR1000RR and a 2018 Honda XR650L.
The CBR1000RR will be decked out in a full Repsol Honda livery, while the XR650L will be heavily modified in a street-tracker motif by award-winning custom bike builder Tony Prust of Analog Cycles in Chicago.
The custom motorcycles will be unveiled during AMA Legends & Champions Weekend in Columbus, Ohio, on Dec. 7.
Throughout 2019, the bikes will tour at select events and be on display at the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame on the AMA campus in Pickerington, Ohio, before ultimately being raffled to raise funds for the American Motorcycle Heritage Foundation, the 501c3 nonprofit that raises money to support the Hall of Fame.
AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days, featuring Royal Enfield, includes national championship vintage racing in several disciplines; bike shows; seminars; vendors; live music at the Old Bike Barn Crossroads; exhibition racing; demo rides; the AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days Swap Meet, brought to you by Federal Motorcycle Transport; and more.
AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days tickets are available at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Children 12 and younger get in free with a ticketed adult. Free parking is also available on site.
Proceeds from AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days benefit the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame, which is located on the AMA campus in Pickerington, Ohio. The mission of the Hall of Fame is to tell the stories and preserve the history of motorcycling’s legends and heroes.
